How to Request a Universal Apostille

Guests may request a universal apostille in two ways:

  • In person at our main office for same day service - 10 documents maximum per person/transaction/company
    • If you have more than 10 documents, you may choose to use our Drop Box option, documents are processed within 72 hours.
  • Mail your request to our office - documents are processed on a first come, first serve basis.

Guests who need an apostille quickly may visit our office for same-day service. Please note that each individual, company, or transaction is limited to a maximum of ten (10) documents.

ONLY one appointment per person or company is allowed per day.

Appointments are required to visit the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Walk-in services are available on Monday and Friday; no appointment is needed on these days.

After booking your appointment, you will receive a confirmation email with further instructions. Fees can be paid by check, money order, credit/debit card, or cash (exact change only) at the office.

Houston Pop-Up Apostille Service

We are excited to announce our office will travel to Houston for a one-day only apostille pop-up service!

Appointments Only - Walk-ins are not accepted at our pop-up location; no exceptions will be made.

Please limit your group to no more than two people.

If booking an appointment, please read carefully the requirements below:

  1. You must book an appointment and present your confirmation email, either printed or accessible on a device, upon arrival. Each individual, company, or transaction is limited to a maximum of ten (10) documents.
  2. The apostille service fee ($15 per document) must be paid 72 business hours prior to your appointment; payment cannot be accepted at your appointment. You will receive a payment request (based on the number of documents you indicate with your appointment booking) from our office to provide payment.
  3. All documents must either be issued from the state of Texas or properly notarized by a Texas notary to qualify for an apostille.

There are no exceptions to these requirements. If you have questions, please contact our office.

NOTE: Documents must be brought to the event already properly notarized and/or issued from the county or state of Texas. We will not notarize or issue documents at the event.

Walk-In Service
(Monday and Friday ONLY)

IMPORTANT: Please note, we will not pull a mailed request(s) for a walk-in service. Once received through the mail, we will process the request in order of receipt.

If visiting our office on a Monday or a Friday, please read carefully the information below:

  1. Please be prepared for long wait times; in some cases, waits may exceed an hour.
  2. All documents must be issued from the state of Texas or properly notarized by a Texas notary to qualify for an apostille.
  3. Please bring payment of $15 per document (not per page). Payment is accepted by check, money order, credit/debit card, or cash (exact change only).
    • If it's for an adoption, please bring $10 per document and Form 2103 (PDF) for each official or document requiring an apostille.

Drop Off Bulk Requests
(Monday-Friday)

Guests who need an apostille and have more than ten (10) documents may drop them off at our office for a three-day processing turnaround.

If you are dropping off documents at our office, please review the following information carefully:

  1. All drop-off requests must be registered using our QR drop box system. Failure to do so may delay the processing of your documents.
         NOTE: If your request is not registered in the system and becomes lost, our office is not responsible for the loss of your documents.
  2. All documents must be issued from the state of Texas or properly notarized by a Texas notary to qualify for an apostille.
  3. Payment should be included with your request in the drop box. If you are paying by credit or debit card, you may pay at the counter when you pick up your documents.
         NOTE: Credit/debit card payments will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis at pick-up, as with walk-in guests.
  4. Your drop-off must include the Bulk Request Drop-Off form, which is available on top of the drop box.

You may choose to pick up your documents in person within 72 hours of processing, or provide a pre-paid, pre-addressed return shipping envelope and label for mailing. Our office does not cover shipping costs or add tracking to your envelope.

Any requests left at the office for more than 72 hours after processing will be mailed to the submitter via USPS without tracking. Our office is not responsible for documents lost in the mail.

Mail Service

Guests wishing to submit requests by mail may send their documents and required information to our office. Mailed requests can take up to two weeks from the day of receipt to process; actual processing times may vary depending on volume.

IMPORTANT: Please note, we will not pull a mailed request(s) for a walk-in service. Once received through the mail, we will process the request in order of receipt.

To request a universal apostille by mail, please review the following information carefully:

  1. You must submit the original Texas issued document, a Texas issued certified copy, or an original Texas notarized document for apostille. We do not apostille copies of certified or notarized records.

    All documents must be issued from the state of Texas or properly notarized by a Texas notary public to qualify for an apostille.
         NOTE: Certified records must have been issued within the past five (5) years to be eligible for apostille. Documents older than five years may not be verifiable and cannot be apostilled.

  2. You must include a completed Form 2102 - Request for a Universal Apostille (PDF) with all required information to process your request.
    • Country: You must indicate the country where the document will be used on the request form. We do not apostille documents for use within the United States or its territories.
    • Adoption Requests: Please use the Form 2103 (PDF) for each official or document to be apostilled. The fee for adoption apostilles is $10 per document, with a maximum of $100 per adoption.
  3. You must include payment of $15 per document (not per page) requested. Apostilles will not be issued without payment, or if there are outstanding fees from previous requests.

    Fees may be paid by Check, Money Order, or Funding an SOS Client Account.
    • Check or Money Order- Checks or money orders must be drawn on a U.S. Bank and made payable to the Office of the Texas Secretary of State. Personal checks or money orders without the payment amount, the requestor's complete address, or the payee's signature will not be accepted.
    • Funding an SOS Client Account - Provide your Client Account number on the Form 2102 (PDF). To fund a client account with a credit card, or debit card, please follow the provided instructions.

Check the Status of Your Mailed Request

Please allow at least two weeks from the date we receive your documents for processing. All requests are handled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Check your tracking! Before contacting our office, please use the tracking information provided by your mailing service to confirm delivery. We do not retain tracking numbers and cannot provide this information for you.

If your documents have been at our office for more than two weeks, please contact us and have the following information ready:

  1. The check or money order number used for your payment.
  2. The tracking number from the envelope used to mail your request.
  3. The name of the submitter as listed on the 2102 Request form.
