AUSTIN, TX – Texas business is booming judging by the substantial number of new business filings processed by the Office of the Texas Secretary of State in 2013.

Last year, 150,979 certificates of formation creating new limited liability companies, corporations, and limited partnerships were filed with the secretary of state’s office. That represents a 5.6 percent increase from 2012, when the office received 142,872 filings.

“The boom in filings to start or conduct business in Texas reflects confidence in our state’s thriving economy,” said Secretary of State Nandita Berry. “The combination of low taxes, less regulation and a fair legal system has made Texas the best state in the nation to live, raise a family and start a business.”

This marks the fourth year in a row in which the number of new business filings in Texas exceeded that of the previous year. April was the biggest filing month in 2013 with 13,985.

Starting a business in Texas is easier than ever thanks to SOSDirect, a service that is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week on the secretary of state’s website. SOSDirect enables customers to file the most frequently used forms online, which speeds up processing times and helps streamline the administrative process.

“We’ve cut red tape and made it possible in many cases to start a new business in Texas virtually overnight,” Secretary Berry said. “Texas is wide open for business. Welcome to the land of opportunity.”
