AUSTIN — Just in time for end-of-year filings, Texas Secretary of State Nandita Berry announced a new tool to help Texas businesses. The business filing tracker, as a part of SOS Direct, now allows businesses to check on the status of documents received by the agency within the last 30 days.
“The business filing tracker is one more way the secretary of state’s office is working to make doing business in Texas as easy as possible,” said Secretary Berry.
Users can locate the record and current status of their business filings using the tracker and a simple keyword search. The tracker is available on the Texas Secretary of State’s homepage.
Businesses formed as corporations and LLCs in Texas are required to submit filings annually. Documents received by the business and public filings division by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31 in correct form will receive a 2014 file date.
Documents will appear on the filing status list once they have been entered into the system. For documents submitted by mail, fax, or personal delivery, it generally takes at least one business day from the time a document has been submitted to the office for the document to be entered into the system and show a status of Received.
Important filing guidelines include:
- Documents and faxes received after close of business on Dec. 31 will receive a 2015 file date.
- Postmarks and fax confirmation notations do not count.
- Incomplete and incorrect documents are returned without filing.
- A corrected document receives a file date based on its resubmission, not the date of the original submission.
For more information, contact the business and public filings division of the secretary of state’s office at 512-463-5555 during normal business hours.
