Candidate's Guide to Primary and General Election
The Texas Election Code designates the Secretary of State as the chief election officer of the State of Texas. In order to provide information on the electoral process to all Texans, my office has prepared this pamphlet in the expectation that increased information will result in increased participation.
The Texas Legislature recently concluded the 80th Regular Session; you can view a summary of election-related bills on our web site.
Upcoming 2008 dates:
- Primary election day: March 4, 2008 (first Tuesday in March)
- Primary runoff day: April 8, 2008 (second Tuesday in April)
- May uniform election date: Saturday, May 10, 2008 (second Saturday in May)
- November uniform election date: Tuesday, November 4, 2008 (first Tuesday after first Monday in November)
