AUSTIN, TX – Texas Secretary of State Rolando Pablos has been appointed to serve as the Border Commerce Coordinator by Governor Greg Abbott. In his capacity as Border Commerce Coordinator, Secretary Pablos will work with local governments, metropolitan planning organizations, and other community groups on both sides of the Texas-Mexico border in order to address the needs of the border region. Additionally, the Border Commerce Coordinator is tasked with seeking input from private sector stakeholders in order to better facilitate cross-border commerce.

"I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to serve as Texas' Border Commerce Coordinator and would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Governor Abbott for his trust in me and for his commitment to Texas border communities," Secretary Pablos said. "It is crucial for state and local leaders, as well as their counterparts across the border, to establish close working relationships so that we may address the unique challenges and further enhance the unique assets of the border region. I hope to leverage the models and relationships I developed as CEO of the Borderplex Alliance in order to build on the rapid growth of the Rio Grande Valley and strengthen border economies from El Paso to Brownsville."

The Border Commerce Coordinator's responsibilities include:

  • Improving communication and cooperation between federal, state and local governments
  • Working with federal officials to resolve transportation issues involving infrastructure
  • Studying the flow of commerce at ports of entry between Texas and Mexico
